The First XV played a Milford Haven development squad at Crickmarren last Saturday, with a squad that included nine nineteen and under players in the starting fifteen. In beautiful summer conditions on an immaculate pitch, both teams expressed themselves fully. Pembroke dominated most of the possession and territory throughout the game and Milford’s players’ inexperience was clear to see. However, it turned out to be an entertaining match for a good crowd, with the hosts running out winners by a large margin.
The Panthers played Tycroes away in a friendly on Sunday, their first outing of the season, after a solid pre-season training programme. The squad acquitted themselves really well outscoring their opponents and winning the match by 0-31, in what was described by their coaches as a very competitive affair in very hot conditions. Pembroke’s coach Dale Humphrey was particularly delighted with the performances of some of the new recruits, who blended well with their more experienced hands.
Upcoming fixtures include, First XV Narberth Athletic away on this Friday evening KO 7pm, in the first round of the Pembs KO Cup and Aug 30 Tonyrefail home KO 2.30pm. The First XV open their League season at home to PD Quins on Sept 13 KO 2.30pm, the game being sponsored by the PRFC Former Players, whilst Panthers play Newcastle Emlyn home on Sept 14, KO 2.30pm and the Youth play Neyland away Sept 6 KO 2.30pm to start their League season.
The new First XV kit for the season has been generously sponsored by the following, Woodenbale 2000, Cresselly Arms, CFS Ltd, Milford Haven Chiropractic Clinic and Sealand Ltd (Pembroke); the new sublimated design incorporates the Tudor Rose, linking the club with it’s town’s history.
Whilst the popular Friday night social touch sessions continue, on Saturday Sept 6 the club is holding a social sevens session in the afternoon, accompanied by a BBQ and music from local DJs.
Sunday August 31 sees a return of the PRFC versus PCC inter-club women’s, men’s and possibly younger age groups’ cricket matches at Pembroke’s cricket ground, starting around midday.
The club is holding an OCTOBERFEST style event, which will include food and music on Saturday October 18 at the clubhouse; a limited number of tickets are on sale at the bar on a first come first served basis.
The very popular Thursday coffee mornings continue between 10am and midday, everyone is welcome to come along for the usual convivial chat and hospitality.
In the picture Rhys Price (St Davids RFC) presented ex-Chairman Darrell Willington with a cheque for £500, which was part of the proceeds from last season’s “Willington Slate” match in St Davids; this has been passed to the Milford Fisherman’s Mission as has a similar amount to RNLI St Davids. The clubs have established a custom in memory of the two lost fishermen (lost at sea off St Davids in 2016) whereby funds are donated to these charities after fundraising activities at both matches.
