The Panthers played their penultimate league fixture against Morriston midweek, a week and a half ago, under lights at the Clickets to continue their close association with the South Pembs Sharks squads.
Panthers strong scrum featuring debutant Laura Evans provide lots of possession, allowing their backs to score very early. But Morriston rallied and had to be kept at bay by some determined home tackling. After an injury to a young Morriston player the match continued fourteen a side. Panthers scored two more quick tries to establish a clear lead by the break. After which three more quick tries gave them an unassailable lead, with the Griffiths sisters and Leah Phillips making many line breaks. Morriston kept up their assaults, but the home side proved very resilient and eventually won by 37-7.
Last weekend the Panthers travelled to Morriston for their final fixture. The match was again a seriously physical affair, with both sides determined to win. The Panthers players dug deep and scored some impressive tries, after excellent work from both forwards and backs. After a titanic battle, the Panther’s ecstatic players and supporters won 17-36 to end their season unbeaten and WRU West Wales League Champions.
The U17 played Crymych at home in their final midweek Mike Fry Cup initial group stage match. The whole game was played at a very high tempo, between two very motivated squads. Pembroke scored two tries to the opposition’s one in the first half, with Dawson Davies scoring a brace, the second of which was a magnificent solo effort from the half way line. The second half saw the visitors lift their game, with their forwards setting up positions for their backs to exploit, scoring two tries to the home side’s one (Davies achieving his hattrick) to establish and hold a narrow lead, which they defended resolutely to claim the victory 19-21.
The Youth entertained a near full Tenby squad last midweek on a dry, windy night. An exciting first half saw the play see saw throughout and the visitors score two tries to Pembroke’s one to hold a 5-29 lead at the break. Tenby imposed themselves in the second half scoring three more tries to Pembroke’s two, setting up a tense final quarter, But the visitors prevailed to win 17-36.
The Juniors were out in force, producing more exciting rugby across the County and at home, with a large number of teams winning. This Sunday the section will be hosting the annual District Junior Finals Day, gates open 10am and matches begin at 10.30 am.
With the playing season completed for all sections, renovations in the clubhouse will start and the annual pitch maintenance will begin.
The very popular Friday night social touch rugby will resume alongside squad presentation nights and the annual senior club dinner, which again will be held at the Town Hall on May 29.
