The First XV entertained Llangwm in the first leg of the Palmer Cup (played in memory of Ray Palmer a son of a well known Llangwm family, who was a luminary at both Pembroke cricket and rugby club). The match was sponsored by the PRFC Former Players (and Windmill Hill Farm), who also raised £400 for ex-player Steve Lewis, who sadly had a very serious work accident; everyone wishes him a speedy recovery. In a game of two contrasting halves, the visitors dominated possession in the first half, scoring two well constructed tries and deservedly leading 10-15 at the break, despite a late try by the home side; whilst Pembroke were left to rue a number of very good positions and opportunities, due to their miss-firing lineout. The second half saw the home side’s pack dominate at the set piece, show greater patience in their phase play and improve their handling to very good effect, scoring five tries to Llangwm’s one; with Pembroke’s flanker Walters demonstrating his strength and mobility in scoring an excellent hat trick to give his side a deserved win by 46-20 in front of a very appreciative crowd that applauded both sides from the field after a highly entertaining match.
The Panthers welcomed Tondu on Sunday afternoon, knowing that they posed a real threat. However, after a really exciting, entertaining and tough encounter, the home side’s forwards produced lots of quality ball for their dangerous backs to use and eventually they ran out very worthy winners by 36-14.
After winning away in Wrexham in the WRU Bowl, the Panthers are rewarded with an away trip to Holyhead. Meanwhile there are no First XV or Youth fixtures this weekend due to the World Cup Final.
The Youth played Narberth at home on Saturday pm. The squad continued their recent run of very good form amassing 50 points in just twenty seven minutes, when under WRU rules the game has to be called to a halt.
Once again all Junior age groups were in action, the minis playing very well in their Festival days around the County and the Juniors winning a number of matches.
The club is holding a children’s Halloween party on Sunday October 29, 5-7pm, wear your fancy dress; call the clubhouse re tickets. Ladies Committee XMAS FAYRE will take place on Sunday November 19, 11am-5pm, everyone is welcome to come along for some festive fare. The first Winter Quiz will be on Friday December 8 starting at 7.15pm for teams of 4-6. The weekly Turkey Trots continue with tickets on sale in Pembroke pubs and the clubhouse. Every first Monday evening per month there is Bingo at the club, starting at 7pm.
