With the season over, the annual squad presentations have been and will continue taking place in the weeks ahead; as is normal, each year the coaches and age group management groups reward their squads and the individuals, who have excelled in many different ways during a long season. The Directors, Management Committee and Junior Committee have been greatly impressed that so many youngsters have represented the club with pride and passion, in our thriving junior section.
A very enjoyable and successful First XV presentation evening was held at Pembroke Town Hall last week, really well organized by the out-going Team Manager Simon Edwards. Club Chair Richard Jelley thanked Simon and those who assisted and went on to thanks all of the players, coaches and volunteers, who had contributed and kept the squad prepared for action throughout the entire season; he also thanked all of the club’s many volunteers who do so much behind the scenes to keep all aspects of the club functioning so efficiently and the many regular supporters that turn out at weekends to give their support to all of the club’s thriving age groups. Awards included: Players Player DANNY DAVIES, Coaches Player ZAK SHAW, Breakthrough Player GEORGE JONES, Supporters Player ZAK SHAW, Top Try Scorer jointly to DAVID ROGERS (presently playing in New Zealand) and ZAK SHAW.
The Youth squad held their event last weekend to reflect on a tough season, but one that showed real development across the squad in the second half of the season, when team performances really blossomed and many individuals showed that they could hold their own, when called up for senior appearances. The team management thanked all of the players for their commitment and persistence and gave out a number of individual awards, which were richly deserved. A number of the lads will now be part of the club’s senior squad next season, whilst their will be a big influx from the U16s group to bolster the Youth squad for next season. The Directors and Management Committee thanked all of the coaches and managers for their dedication and commitment and congratulated the squad on their season, prior to the usual hospitality. The Panthers were confirmed as West Wales League Champions and they will be holding their celebration evening in the coming weeks. The squad and club very recently received the fantastic news that young Am Kennedy had recently received her first international Norwegian rugby 7’s cap, at the Vikinor Nordic Cup series of matches in Copenhagen, competing against Denmark, Sweden and Finland; everyone at our club is very proud of her achievement and wishes her success as she pursues her international dream. The Panthers will be holding their presentation evening in late June at the clubhouse.
A program of pre-season fixtures for all sections is presently being compiled and these will be published on the club website asap confirmed.
The club is hosting a huge afternoon charity event on the club fields on August 8th, the “PARTY ON THE FIELD” will see a BBQ, lots of stalls, games, etc for adults and children to enjoy, with profits being donated to SARCOMA UK.
Thanks to the successful bids for grant funding, there has been a lot of refurbishment work at the club in the last few weeks, which will benefit all members and visitors; our thanks to Woodenbale and all other tradesmen for their excellent work on these projects. Pitch renovations have also been completed during the last weeks in May and we hope to see the very popular Friday night social rugby sessions resume in July.
The club was recently informed of the passing of our Assistant Secretary’s mother In Hendy. A large number of the committee attended her funeral in Llanelli earlier this week; thoughts are with Ieuan and all of his family and close friends.
